President Obama puts prevention into Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month

National Sexual Violence Resource Center's Logo for April 2012

Today President Obama issued a proclamation declaring April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.  I am pleased to see the added focus on prevention in the new title (formerly Sexual Assault Awareness Month) and even highlighted primary prevention efforts when he wrote “my Administration is working to stop sexual violence before it begins….”

There are many great prevention efforts taking place this month including the toolkit called Get Social from the  Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA) ; the Voices. Actions. Communities. Ending Sexual Violence videos from the Washington Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, National Sexual Violence Resource Center‘s campaign on promoting healthy sexuality to prevent sexual violence, Denim Day from Peace Over Violence, and the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault‘s Media Resources.

What are you doing to promote prevention this month?
