CSW57: Eliminating and preventing all forms of violence against women
The United Nations has just released the Agreed Conclusions from its 57th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). Held in New York City at the beginning of March, this year’s CSW focused on the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women. Accordingly, the conclusions recommend the 4 following actions:
- Strengthening implementation of legal and policy frameworks and accountability.
- Addressing structural and underlying causes and risk factors so as to prevent violence against women and girls.
- Strengthening multisectoral services, programmes, and responses to violence against women and girls.
- Improving the evidence-base.
Under each of the 4 recommendation are more detailed and specific action steps. The document reflects the experiences and knowledge of thousands of CSW participants, experts in addressing violence against women from across the globe.
