Working with faith communities to prevent domestic violence

(4 mins) Donna Garske, Executive of Director of Transforming Communities (a project of Center for Domestic Peace) discusses the agency's work with faith communities to prevent domestic violence. TC's Technical Assistance, Training and Resource Center recently released One in Spirit: Domestic Violence Advocates and Faith/Spiritual Leaders Working in Partnership to End Domestic Violence, an online resource that captures the rich dialogue, successes, lessons learned and strategic questions from TC-TAT's involvement in more than eight years of domestic violence prevention in faith and spiritual communities, as well as the knowledge gathered from the 2010 Transfer of Knowledge Gathering.

The Marin Faith Communities Nonviolence Project

(10 mins) Rev. Bill Eichhorn talks about The Marin Faith Communities Nonviolence Project's countywide campaign during the Season for Nonviolence to raise awareness about domestic violence and implement prevention strategies within Marin faith communities. A collaborative partnership was established between Community Congregational Church of Tiburon, Center for Domestic Peace and Marin Interfaith Council to advance the project's efforts and expand community outreach. As a result of the project, one of the participating churches implemented a Safe Church Policy that includes zero tolerance for domestic violence as well as protocols for responding to abuse.

Milwaukee Healthy Manhood Project

(22 mins) Tony Porter of A CALL TO MEN, Lina Juarbe Botella, a Milwaukee community member, and James Mosley of the Alma Center speak about the Milwaukee Healthy Manhood Project. After a 2009 workshop in Milwaukee lead by A CALL TO MEN, community-based efforts have begun to engage community organizations to address men's violence against women.
