Why men speak out about rape

PreventConnect.org

Michael Shaw

When men are silent about rape, we give the message, whether intentional or not, that we are not concerned.  As a response to the New York Times coverage of the gang rape of an 11-year-old girl, last week I wrote about a call to action (Men speak out about sexist coverage of rape) for men to come forward to speak out and prevent sexual violence.  Check out this interview with  Emiliano Diaz de Leon, from the Texas Association Against Sexual Assault, and Michael Shaw, from Waypoint Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, about why they signed this statement.
