2018 National Sexual Assault Conference: A Whole New World: Disney, Porn, and Sexual Violence Prevention
The 2018 National Sexual Assault Conference, “Bold Moves: Ending Sexual Violence in One Generation,” was held in Anaheim, CA, August 29-31 2018. This workshop was part of the Media track, co-sponsored by the California Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Ms. Magazine. Learn more and access workshop materials here.
In this interactive workshop, Sarah Diamond of the Center for Community Solutions and Sarah Bear of the New Jersey Coalition Against Sexual Assault guide participants through using media literacy to dissect gender norms and sexual violence prevention with youth. Sarah Squared, the nickname the presenters call themselves to start the workshop, engage the audience in exercises to unpack their own biases around pornography, sex work, and gender norms, and close the workshop with activities any prevention practitioner can take back to their own communities and the youth they serve.
Sarah Diamond also recently joined PreventConnect on a podcast to discuss her healthy relationships programming for incarcerated youth. Check out her podcast here.
